2010 Year End Vacation

Here is what we did in a nutshell.

Myrtle Beach, SC

We spent the first three days in Myrtle Beach, SC and thoroughly enjoyed the small crowds and cheap prices the off season has to offer. The only downside is that it was a little bit chilly, but that didn't stop Jeremy and Schuyler from playing in the sand on the beach.

U.S.S. North Carolina (Wilmington, NC)

One day was spent in Wilmington, NC visiting the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship.

Schuyler and Jeremy next to the rescue plane that would get launched off of a catapult on the battleship.

Jeremy standing next to the explosive projectiles that would get shot out of the huge 16 inch diameter guns.

Jeremy is busy trying to shoot down enemy airplanes with one of the many anti-aircraft cannons on the ship.

Norfolk, VA

Jeremy was excited to finally see real aircraft carriers when we passed by Norfolk Shipyard.

Newport News, VA

Schuyler was excited to finally see the house that his family lived in when he was born over 31 years ago. Unfortunately the front two doors are no longer red.

Here is the Elementary School that some of Schuyler's siblings attended.

Colonial Williamsburg, VA

My Boys

Well, it has been a while and a lot has happened. I love the month of October. It is time for the weather to cool(even though the summer here was GREAT!), the leaves to change( have you seen them? they are absolutely beautiful this year!) and I get to celebrate another wonderful year of having the two greatest blessing in my life, my boys. Jeremy turned 6 years old last weekend and is in his second month of Kindergarten. Schuyler birthday is this week and he will be hitting the big 30! Wow, time flies. Schuyler and I actually met on our mission over 11 years ago. He has been a blessing ever since. When we met, I was struggling with depression. He was a savior to me because he had experienced this awful disease in his own life and was able to help me find the courage to seek the medical attention I needed and this truly transformed my mission and the experiences that I had while serving the Lord. It only began there. He truly is the perfect match for me, putting up with my weaknesses and constantly helping me become a better person.
Jeremy is also a blessing!!! I have been given this awesome opportunity to be his parent and I am so grateful for this. This past year has been eye opening. As most of you know, Schuyler and I have been diligently trying to have another baby since Jeremy was born. We had dreams of having at least four children and well, things have not gone as planned. I have done a lot of soul searching and praying wondering why the Lord would bless us with this great kid and not let him have a sibling to share life with. I remember one of the most heartbreaking memories concerning this when we were in Denver a couple years ago. Schuyler, Jeremy, and I went to Buckley Air force Bass to watch fighter jets land and take off. Near the base, there is a playground where kids can play and watch the jets at the same time. Jeremy was there amongst all the other children who were there apparently with their siblings. The siblings where playing together and having fun. Schuyler and I notice Jeremy sitting on the bottom of one of the slides with his head down, kicking up dirt. He looked really sad, and we asked him what was wrong. He told us that he didn't have anyone to play with. Well, of course we told him to go and asked the other kids to play, which he did, but it really got me thinking. Who do I hang out with? My Siblings. I am so lucky to have them around. I thought about that and I felt really sad for Jeremy. Schuyler and I really upped our effort in trying to get pregnant and at last, nothing has happened. The reason I share this is because this past year with Jeremy has truly been a blessing. I came to realize that I have a beautiful healthy baby boy, that I was able to create inside of me. That is truly a blessing. I realized that I did not want to focus on what I didn't have anymore, but rather on what a blessing I do have. Everyday with Jeremy has been magical since then. I find myself enjoying him more, and even becoming a much better parent.
I hope this 7th year of life with him will even be more enlightening. I am so grateful for my boys and for the Love they show me on a daily basis. I hope to have another wonderful year with them, God willing, and promise to cherish each day with them. Here's to my Boys, Happy Birthday and I love you more than life itself!

WHAT'S UP??

So I have been really busy lately and haven't had much time for blogging. I started working part-time for my dad. I really enjoy it and the money isn't that bad either. I work while Jeremy is in school and then we have the whole afternoon together.

The other thing that has been taking all my time and energy is that Schuyler and I joined a gym. We go right when he gets home from work. When we get home, I usually have to make dinner and get ready for the next day. Talk about exhausting! I have really enjoyed going to the gym. I feel like Schuyler and I are doing something worthwhile together.

Well, that's all I have got time for.

Jeremy's 5th Birthday

Jeremy Alan Nichols
October 10th 2003

Origin of the first name:

Jeremy’s first name originated from his late uncle Jeremy Todd Nichols on his fathers side of the family.

Jeremy Todd Nichols was a vibrant, energetic, and much loved ten year old boy.
His physical strength and threshold for pain seemed almost unreal for a ten year old kid.
His love for adventure and excitement was obvious in his everyday activities. Whether it was attempting outrageous stunts on his BMX bike, racing down the hilly neighborhood streets at 25 mph on a skateboard, monkeying around in a tree house that was 25 feet off of the ground, or simply exploring around the nearby foothills, Jeremy just seemed to never stop.

Jeremy appeared to have more life experience at ten years old, than many people in their 30’s have. Having lived in three different states and three different countries was just the tip of the iceberg. By the summer of 1987, Jeremy had probably required more visits to the emergency room in his lifetime than the rest of his entire 4th grade class combined. Lead poisoning, cutting an artery in his right foot, getting his face cut open from running into barb wire, and busting his head open from bike crashes are just a few of the many misfortunes that struck him. However, his speedy recoveries and iron will to always pick up where he left off was nothing short of spectacular.

In July 1987 Jeremy Todd Nichols’ luck finally ran out. While attempting to climb out of a tree house and move to a platform on a higher branch, Jeremy lost his grip and fell to his death.

Jeremy’s death was a major blow to the Nichols family, as years of mourning followed the tragedy. Nothing could have prepared the family for such a heartbreaking experience.

For Jeremy’s brother Schuyler, it was an especially hard blow. Having shared a room and a bunk with Jeremy for most of his life, Schuyler had grown very close to his brother. Schuyler truly looked up to and admired his older brother, and the fact that he was gone sent shock waves through every vain in his body.

As the years went by though, Schuyler noticed that the memory of Jeremy seemed to become more and more unreal. It was as if Jeremy was becoming something that never actually existed. Troubled by this, Schuyler wanted to find some way to help Jeremy’s name live on, so when Schuyler’s wife Abbey suggested the name Jeremy for their first born son, Schuyler quickly jumped onboard with the idea. What better way to help Jeremy’s name live on, then to give the very same name to Schuyler’s own son, whom he loves more than life itself.

Origin of the middle name:

Jeremy’s middle name originated from his grandfather Ronald Alan Rosenberg on his mother’s side of the family.

Schuyler and Abbey wanted there son’s name to have a slice from both sides of the family, and having already decided on the first name for their son, they decided to give Jeremy a middle name that would reflect a great man on Abbey’s side of the family.

Having always loved and admired her father throughout her life, Abbey requested that Jeremy be given the same middle name that her father was given.

Ronald Alan Rosenberg is a man of real honesty and integrity. Wise and unwavering in his good ways, Ron has always been somebody that people have felt they could turn to for good advice and counsel. Whether as Employer Rosenberg, Bishop Rosenberg, Father Rosenberg, or just Ron, Ronald Rosenberg has been the man to go to.
To the outsider Ron may seem a bit intimidating, standoffish, unemotional, or even stubborn at times, but anyone who takes the time to get to know him on a personal level soon realizes that there is a method to his madness. Tough love is something that a lot of friends and family might view him as, but none would ever deny that he is a very loving and compassionate individual who would give you the shirt off of his back.

Despite the origin of his first and middle names, Jeremy Alan Nichols is certainly one of a kind. Abbey and Schuyler are very proud to be the parents of this very special little guy. Life would just be so empty without him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEREMY!!!!!

The things we do for money

Well, many of you know, Schuyler and I have been doing everything in our power to finds ways to make extra money, so we can pay off debt. Anyway, one of the ways we do this is by collecting alumium cans and turning them in to be recycled. ( We are not only helping ourselves, we are also helping the environment.) Now, this doesn't bring in a lot of money, but it is one way we have been able to make a little bit more without spending even more time away from each other. Jeremy is even on board. When we are driving, he will point out cans that he sees along the road. Sometimes we will even pull over and let him pick it up for us. (Only if it is safe.) It has become a quite unique hobby for my little family and I. AND we have made a little bit of money by doing this. Anyway this leads me to my funny little story that happened to me a few weeks ago.

Jeremy was at school, so Caitlyn (the little girl I babysit) and I decided to go for a walk. I put her in the stroller and we were off. While I was walking I began to see all these cans along the street, sidewalk, and etc., so I decided to pick them up. I guess I looked funny because I noticed this guy slowdown and turn around so that he could talk to me. He pulled up to me and well, this is how the conversation went.

Big Dude: "Are you lost? Did you loose something?"

Me: "No, I am just exercising, and looking for cans."

Big Dude: "Do you need some money?"

Me: (In my head, "why yes I do, how much will you give me?") Out loud," Oh no, I'm fine, thanks."

Big Dude: "Alright"

He pulls away, and the first thought I had was how bad do I look? ( I had been walking for over an hour and a half and it was preeetty warm out.) Second thing I thought was, wow, there are still some really decent people in this world. So it goes to show you, we (the Nichols family) are willing to do ALMOST anything for a little extra pocket change, even if we look pretty weird doing it.

Wedding of the Year

Jarrod, my cousin, and Sarah, his long time girlfriend, tied the knot a little over a week ago and we were blessed enough to be able to attend. It was a BEAUTIFUL wedding and we had a ton of fun.

This is the gorgeous church were they shared their vows.

Jeremy and My cousin Maggie smile for the camera. She was in the bridal party and as you can see the colors were orange and pink. Tooo cute!

Here is Schuyler, entertaining himself.

WE DID IT!!!!

This past Saturday, Jeremie, Cassie, and I finished our first half marathon! It was raining, which was a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it gave us relief from the heat we had been having, but a curse because wet socks, shoes and running do not mix very well. Our feet were pretty sore, and we all had blisters, BUT we did it! I never consisdered myself a runner, but now I must say that I am addicted to it. It definitly is a Love/Hate relationship.

As far as my new year's resolution to run a marathon, I feel like my body at this point is built for a half. As I continue to loose weight, I feel that a marathon will be my next longggg term goal, but as for now, I am quite satisfied with my latest accomplishment.
